DISASTER MANAGEMENT CONCENTRATION

The DISASTER MANAGEMENT concentration of the Master of Security and Disaster Management degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks focuses on the whole-of-government approach as well as local-level capacity building for all phases of emergency management, including preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. Students in this concentration will receive the knowledge and credentials applicable to a wide spectrum of public- and private-sector preparedness and response careers.

Develop an understanding on how to apply social science research and analysis for policy development and adaptive application. Through this concentration students will discuss and review public policy, strategies, organizational management and leadership issues they will face as future practitioners and leaders in the field.

This concentration will include topics such as community planning, international disaster management, project management and strategic collaboration in order to effectively prepare future leaders for success in the disaster management field.

Experts in disaster management possess highly transferable skills which allow for career mobility and associated leadership opportunities throughout the world.
